  • Working In A Coal Mine
Morgan Spurlock, a West Virginia native, spends 30 days working in a Mountain State coal mine. "It's like going to the moon. And it's so loud," Spurlock says as he enters his new workplace for the first time. He also sees firsthand just how dirty and dangerous coal mining can be, both in the mine and when he accompanies Dale Lusk, his boss (and his roommate for the month), to a local health clinic where they're checked for black-lung disease.

  • Living In A Wheelchair
Former NFL cornerback Ray Crockett, a healthy 41-year-old who played in a 1991 game in which a teammate was paralyzed, spends 30 days in a wheelchair. Crockett's house and car are retrofitted, and he continues to coach his son's football team. He also plays wheelchair rugby and attends meetings of a paraplegic support group.

  • Animal Rights
A North Carolina hunting enthusiast lives for a month with a Los Angeles vegan who's a PETA campaign coordinator. They participate in an animal-rights demonstration, work at a rescue center for farm animals and meet with animal-rights organizations.

  • Same Sex Parenting
A California adoptee (and mother of two adopted sons) who opposes same-sex parenting spends a month with a gay Michigan couple who have four adopted sons. She attends church with the family, travels to state capital Lansing for a rally promoting adoption rights for gay and lesbian couples, and meets with a group of lesbian mothers. She also meets with former foster children, who discuss growing up without parents or a permanent home.

  • Gun Nation
A Massachusetts dance instructor who advocates gun control spends 30 days with an Ohio gun enthusiast. She also works in a gun shop and visits a gun show. And she introduces her host to people who have lost loved ones to gun violence.

  • Life On An Indian Reservation
Morgan Spurlock explores Native American culture as he spends 30 days on a Navajo reservation in New Mexico. Spurlock's Native American hosts: a school superintendent (who holds a PhD) and her husband, a college physical-education instructor and a rodeo competitor. They're well-to-do but also well-connected to their ancestral culture. Spurlock also spends nights in a less-commodious traditional dwelling called a hogan and works at a tire store.
