  • Welcome To Long Beach, Baby
It is redemption season for head coach Raul Lara, who must return his team to its winning tradition or be faced with the prospect of stepping down.. A championship season will require both Coaches and players to step up. The players must give it their all and avoid injury. The Coaches must inspire and make solid decisions. There are two contenders for the all-important quarterback position: Chaiyse Hales and Lara's own son, Emmanuel. Both are juniors and untested, so no one has a lock on the top spot. Also, during an unfocused practice session, senior Jeremiah Hollowell injures his shoulder and jeopardizes his last season at Poly. Jeremiah's mother is clearly upset that he is not able to play. With his two year-old son in his lap, Jeremiah swears on a bible that he will be dedicated to football, but his future remains uncertain. All the pressures of the beginning of the season culminate on the field during a scrimmage where a brawl breaks out between the teams. Leading the refs to end the game. Coach Lara is not happy with the team's conduct, and he doesn't know how he is going to pull the team together.

  • Go Hard Or Go Home
Reeling from the on-field brawl of the last scrimmage, Coach Lara questions the readiness of his team for the first game of the season against Bakersfield. At the practice, Coach Burford disciplines the players who started the fight, and Lara makes the tough decision to bench his son Emmanuel in order to start Chaiyse as quarterback. Meanwhile, Senior Jeremiah Hollowell re-injures his shoulder, shattering his hopes of being the starting Running Back in the first game. To support his low-income family, Senior Devin Jackson sells knives door to door, a fact that does not sit well with his father. Family comes first in the Jackson household, and Devin finds out that he must miss the first game to attend his sister's wedding, threatening his last chance to play his final year of Poly football. Chaiyse confides to his mother that he wishes his father, who has been absent for the last five years, could see him play starting Quarterback. Just before the first game, Chaiyse's mother arranges to fly his father into town for a surprise visit. Chaiyse is shocked and thrilled to have his dad finally see him play football. With the pressures of the coach, the team, and his family on his shoulders, Chaiyse takes his first snap as varsity Quarterback.

  • Reality Check
With a win over Bakersfield, Long Beach Poly has taken their first step towards a championship season. The excitement is not shared by running back Jeremiah Hollowell, who is disappointed that he was sidelined at the first game due to his injured shoulder. During practice for the St. Bonaventure game, senior Dabness Atkins' temper gets the best of him while running drills, and he threatens to walk off the field. Coach Lara is also concerned about his Quarterbacks, as neither Chaiyse Hales nor Emmanuel are performing well. After practice, Starr Scott talks to Dabness about his attitude issues on and off the field. Together they discuss how the death of his father at the age of 11 has impacted Dabness. The rocky week continues into the game against St. Bonaventure when Poly falls behind early and Coach Lara replaces Chaiyse with his son Emmanuel, who plays badly amidst a booing Poly crowd.

  • Defend Our Territory
After Poly suffers a beating at the hands of St. Bonaventure, Coach Raul Lara warns his players that no position is safe. On the practice field, quarterback contenders Chaiyse Hales and Emmanuel Lara are not impressing Coach Lara. Meanwhile, Jeremiah Hollowell learns he must switch positions from running back to defensive end, and he is struggling. During a seesaw game on the road, Jeremiah continues to have trouble at his new position.

  • They're Rich And We're Not
Coach Raul Lara is concerned about Poly's upcoming game against the affluent and powerful Mission Viejo. Poly has never beaten Mission Viejo and they are in for a battle. At dinner with friends, Devin Jackson complains that he is not getting enough playing time and that his girlfriend's father disapproves of him. Chaiyse Hales' first quarter interception is just the first mistake in a series of disappointing plays for Poly. Will the team still have a shot at a championship season?

  • Live For The Moment
After an embarrassing loss on their home turf to Mission Viejo High School, the Poly Jackrabbits season record stands at a stagnant 2-2. Players and parents question Coach Raul Lara's decision to play his son Emmanuel Lara over superior starting quarterback Chaiyse Hales. Meanwhile, Jeremiah Hollowell receives devastating news about his close friend. Several players discuss the dangers of living in Long Beach and the people they know that have ultimately died or ended up in prison. Despite a week of tough losses, Poly hopes a win against Jordan High School will give the team the jumpstart they need.
