The Pacific EpisodesSeason 1

Back To Pazsaz Entertainment Network's The Pacific Page

  • Part 1
In the immediate aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Marine Sgt. John Basilone prepares to ship out and confront the enemy somewhere in the Pacific, while budding journalist Robert Leckie enlists in the Marine Corps. Eugene Sledge, unable to enlist because of a heart murmur, says farewell to his best friend, Sidney Phillips, who is about to leave for boot camp. Exactly eight months after Pearl Harbor, the 1st Marine Division, including Leckie and Phillips, lands on Guadalcanal in order to secure its strategically vital airfield and prepare for the inevitable counterattack.

  • Part 2
The fighting continues for the 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal through the end of 1942, including machine gunner John Basilone's heroics during a desperate defense of the airfield by Lt. Col. "Chesty" Puller's outnumbered 7th Marine Regiment.

  • Part 3
To rehabilitate after the Guadalcanal campaign, the 1st Marine Division arrive in Melbourne in January 1943, where Leckie develops a close relationship with a Greek-Australian woman and her family. Meanwhile, Basilone receives the Medal of Honor, but he is reluctant to embark on his next assignment of selling war bonds back in the U.S.

  • Part 4
The 1st Marine Division fight the Japanese - and the jungle conditions - at Cape Gloucester on the island of New Britain in December 1943. In May 1944, the Marines recuperate on Pavuvu, but a prostrate Leckie is sent to a naval hospital on Banika for psychiatric observation. Meanwhile, Eugene Sledge trains as a mortarman at Camp Elliott in California.

  • Part 5
Eugene Sledge has a brief reunion with Sid Phillips on Pavuvu in June 1944 and gets his first taste of combat the following September, when the 1st Marines meet heavy resistance landing on Peleliu. Meanwhile, John Basilone experiences the ups and downs of selling war bonds on a cross-country tour of the U.S., and has a chance encounter with his brother George, a fellow marine, in California.

  • Part 6
Still fighting on Peleliu in September 1944, in extreme heat and with little drinking water, Leckie, Sledge and the rest of the 1st Marines attempt a dangerous assault across the airfield under constant fire from entrenched enemy positions. Meanwhile, Sid Phillips pays a visit to Sledge's parents back in Mobile, Ala., and does his best to assure them their son will be all right.

  • Part 7
The battle for control of Peleliu continues in October 1944 as Sledge's unit is rocked by devastating casualties, disheartened by an enemy unwilling to surrender and brought to the breaking point by the brutality of war. Meanwhile, Basilone's war-bond campaign begins to weigh on his conscience.

  • Part 8
Basilone's request to leave the war-bonds campaign is finally granted, and he's assigned to California's Camp Pendleton in December 1943 to train new recruits. At the base, he falls for a fellow sergeant, Lena Riggi, though both of them know he's likely to return to combat, which he does in February 1945 for the invasion of Iwo Jima.

  • Part 9
Weeks of fighting on Okinawa throughout May 1945 take its toll on Sledge, Shelton and the rest of the 1st Marines, who face heavy resistance from last-ditch efforts by the Japanese and cope with the additional stress of civilians caught in the crossfire.

  • Part 10
After the Japanese surrender on August 15, 1945, Leckie leaves a Long Island hospital for home in New Jersey, where he begins an awkward courtship with his neighbor Vera and haggles for his old job at the newspaper. Meanwhile, Sledge goes back to Alabama on a train with Snafu and Burgin, and reunites with Phillips, but has trouble readjusting to civilian life; and Lena Basilone has an emotional introduction to her slain husband's family in New Jersey.
