  • Pilot
    Rita, an overworked wife and mother, is in the middle of a full blown identity crisis. After a meltdown with her husband, Jay, Rita's antidote is to carve out a couple hours a week for herself. In her first endeavor, she entices her postal carrier, Patty, and unemployed neighbor, Owen, to join her in her garage for weekly jam sessions.

  • Lies, Lies, Lies, Yeah-Ah
    Rita misses a big moment at Shannon's karate class because of band practice. Rita and Jay try to cover, but their teen daughter Hallie discovers Rita missed it. While Rita explains to Hallie why it was appropriate to tell a white lie, Shannon overhears the conversation and is heartbroken. Riddled with guilt, Rita buys Shannon a dog. Meanwhile, Hallie's boyfriend Kip continues to play drums in Rita's band even though Hallie forbids him.

  • You Gotta Have Friends
    Trying to help nudge Patty's new relationship with the UPS guy along, Rita ends up complicating it instead. Meanwhile, Kip and Hallie's plans to get tattoos doesn't go over well with Rita and Jay.

  • Flirting With Disaster
    When her guitar string breaks, Rita and Patty end up at a guitar shop where they meet two young musicians who invite them to watch their band play. Rita comes home from the concert feeling frisky, but when Jay finds out she was hangin' with a "couple of young studs," he feels a bit threatened.

  • Nobody Does It Better
    Tired of her daily contributions to the household going unnoticed, Rita gets upset when her girls compliment Jay on the surprise dinner he makes for everyone. Their bickering comes to end when they think Hallie is missing and they assume that she has snuck out to a concert.

  • Mother's Little Helper
    When Rita and Jay lose their sitter for a weekend getaway to Chicago, Hallie tries to prove to her mother she's mature enough to be left in charge. To ease Rita's fears, Patty lends Rita her nanny-cam.

  • Take This Job And Shove It
    Rita and Jays plan to teach Hallie the value of money backfires when she gets a job. With her newfound freedom, Hallie declares she is no longer interested in attending college. Jay and Rita bill Hallie for food and money she has borrowed in the past, but Hallie gets promoted and receives a raise. When Rita misses the bands first gig because of work, Hallie realizes that college would give her more control over her life.

  • The Crying Game
    Jay's friends make fun of him after Rita reveals his soft side. Shannon gets the help of Kip and Hallie on her school film project.

  • Under Pressure
    Rita advises her daughter about sex after she learns Hallie's friends are pressuring her to have it with Kip. Meanwhile, Jay participates in Career Day at Shannon's school.

  • Got No Time
    Rita volunteers Jay for a committee that turns out to be an excuse for dads to watch sports. Meanwhile, Rita is called for jury duty. Both are pleased with how relaxing their new responsibilities are and realize they need to make free time a priority. Elsewhere, Hallie and Kip become vegetarians.

  • Love On The Rocks
    Owen's wife kicks him out of the house when his band time interferes with his job hunt. Rita offers him her place to crash, and Owen soon sees an unexpected side to his bandmate.

  • I Write The Songs
    Rita and Patty fear Kip is cheating on Hallie, but soon learn he's spending time performing with a younger band that writes great songs. Inspired by the group's creativity, Rita tries to pen some tunes, but finds the process difficult until Jay reminds her of letters she once wrote to him.

  • The Girl Is Mine
    Patty comes to the rescue when a bad cold leaves Rita barely able to get out of bed. While running the household, Patty purchases Shannon her first training bra and helps her practice for her school musical. Furious, Rita becomes increasingly jealous of Patty and thinks she is losing Shannon to her. Meanwhile, Jay and Kip bond over the Guitar Hero video game, but their new 'relationship? becomes a little too competitive.

  • Old Friends
    Rita is contacted by her old friend Cindy, through Facebook. Cindy was the keyboardist in their Bangles cover band, and Rita blames her for breaking them up. Cindy reveals to Rita how unfulfilled she has felt ever since she left their band. Patty encourages Rita to make amends, so Rita invites Cindy to sit in with the band for a couple songs. As Cindy and Rita re-connect, both Patty and Jay start to feel neglected.

  • It's My Party
    Jay is furious when he catches Hallie sneaking back into the house after having crashed a college party. He grounds her for a whole month, which includes no Kip, no cell, no computer, no TV or car privileges. Unfortunately, Rita and Jay suffer more than Hallie does as they struggle with sticking to their own grounding rules. To Ritas surprise, Hallie claims shes enjoying being "off the grid" and is eager to serve the full month. Jay will not be had so he revises the punishment and un-grounds Hallie. Meanwhile, Shannon guilts Rita and Jay into throwing their dog Yoda an elaborate birthday party. Throughout, Patty tries to convince Rita to let her hunky new personal trainer play some part in the band.

  • I Can't Make You Love Me
    When Jay's worldly Aunt Mavis comes for a visit, Rita learns that Mavis doesn't like her and thinks Jay could have done better. Rita tries to win her over but finds that Mavis has been holding a grudge ever since Rita lied about being sick and bowed out of Thanksgiving many years ago. In reality, Jay made up that excuse because he scored great tickets to a sporting event. In an attempt to protect Jay's relationship with his aunt, Rita cops to the lie, but Jay finally comes clean.

  • Get Off Off Of My Cloud
    Rita and Jay go out to dinner with Jays big new client Sam "The Storage King" Bowman. Jay tries to talk business, but Sam would rather talk to Rita about her garage band. Sam is very impressed by Rita and admits that hes always harbored a secret desire to do exactly what shes doing. Sam invites Rita and her friends to perform at his companys annual party. Jay is excited but overwhelms Rita with suggestions for their first real gig in front of an audience. At the party, Jay apologizes to Rita and admits he got carried away. He got caught up in the fun diversion of doing something creative himself. Throughout, Shannon scams Hallie into doing household chores, for her own profit.

  • Killer Queen
    During a fundraising event at Shannon's school, Rita goes head-to-head with Jennifer, another overachieving mother. Jennifer's daughter has been excluding Shannon from the lunch table, and Rita begins getting the same treatment from Jennifer. Upon seeing that her gift basket pales in comparison to Jennifer's, Rita decides to level the playing field. Meanwhile, Hallie buys a used car that is the same as Jay's very first car.

  • What's Love Got To Do With It
    While everyone around her is making special plans for Valentine's Day, Rita questions whether her marriage has lost some of its romance when she and Jay decide on an evening of pizza and TV. After a change of heart, Rita plans an elaborate surprise evening for Jay, but it's cut short when Yoda gets sick. After hearing his wife admit that spontaneity may no longer be possible for them, Jay comes up with a plan of his own. Meanwhile, Shannon prepares Yoda for a dog show.

  • We Can Work It Out
    Rita quits the band after a promotion at work leads to an overwhelming schedule. Jay and the girls notice she just isn't the same without her music and set out to get Rita back on track.
