Runaway Squad premiered on A&E on April 5, 2010. Over 1.6 million children run away every year, yet most police departments are just too busy to find them, even the ones in danger. That's why NYC private investigator Joe Mazzilli created his own team, the Runaway Squad, to rescue these endangered runaways and bring them home safely. As a decorated NYPD detective, Joe Mazzilli first worked deep undercover infiltrating the mob, then started the department's first-ever Pimp Squad, breaking up prostitution operations all over NYC, many of which exploited runaway children. This began a lifelong passion to rescue runaways. Even after retiring from the NYPD, Joe never forgot the harrowing danger these children face out in the street from pimps and drug dealers, and vowed to save them. Now a private investigator, Joe Mazzilli heads the Runaway Squad, a team that tracks endangered runaways and reunites them with their desperate families, working the cases pro bono. From the moment they begin their search, the team is under intense pressure to find the runaways quickly. With each passing day, the chance of the children being hurt rises. Using a combination of street smarts, investigative connections, and surveillance techniques, Joe and his team leave no stone unturned until they find the runaway. But the work doesn't stop there. After the tears of a joyful reunion subside, Joe turns his attention to an even bigger challenge: getting them to recognize, and honestly confront, the underlying issues that led to the child running away in the first place.
