Winning The Lottery
Times are good again in Parshall, North Dakota. After oil is discovered under this sleepy farming community, many residents are becoming millionaires virtually overnight. But for every new millionaire there's someone who won't benefit at all from the oil boom. To them, the oil does nothing but bring more traffic, deadly car crashes, noise and pollution. A division begins to emerge between the 'haves and have nots' which threatens to rip apart the social fabric of this once???harmonious town.
Ramblin' Man
With oil and money flowing, it's a very Merry Christmas in Parshall, North Dakota. An oil well has been drilled under the town and all of the landowners will share in the profits. From the grocery store to the hair salon, everyone is dreaming of oil. Richard (Mayor & Grocery Store Owner) has received his first oil check and is enjoying his new wealth and planning for a brighter future. But not everyone's fortunes are looking up. When Larry (Oil Rig Welder) has a dispute with one of the oil rigs, his relationship with Jeanette (Motel Owner) is put in jeopardy. Will this relationship borne from the boom be able to survive it?
Main Street's Getting Crowded
Parshall's main street is alive again. The town's only restaurant has been closed for a year, but will re-open in a matter of days. Hopefully, the social heart of the town will be beating again. Down the street, the city council has decided to use their oil money to build a new City Hall. However, not everyone is pleased with this decision. In order to erect this new building, they will need to demolish the beloved town library. Tensions rise over the push for new development as wells move closer and closer to residents' homes.
Power In Numbers
As the oil boom continues, Parshall is making millions of dollars by selling water to oil companies for drilling. But some residents feel that this revenue comes at a steep price. Local farmers and ranchers worry that the oil industry will deplete their limited water resources. A high school student grieves over her sister who was killed by a truck transporting water to the oilfield. Meanwhile, Richard (the Mayor & Grocery Store Owner) has taken his first step towards retirement by hiring a new manager. But will this free him up, or only create more problems?
Cashing Out
Nearly a year into the oil boom, the sheen is starting to wear off and Parshall residents are taking stock of the changes. A surprise announcement at a City Council meeting forces Richard (Mayor/Grocery Store Owner) to re-evaluate his future. Faced with an offer, Jeanette (motel owner) tries to decide if it's time to cash out. The good fortunes of the boom are also spreading beyond North Dakota as the oil money is now going out of state. As the town prepares for a big 4th of July Celebration, everyone looks to the future and hopes the boom won't be a bust in the end.
