That's why when it comes to a very special client -Candice's mom - she pulls out all the stops to create a space that is both wonderfully functional as well as skillfully social - a great place for friends and family to congregate. Follow Candice as she faces the challenges of turning an outdated, dysfunctional space into her mom's ultimate party kitchen.
Color For Color Phobes
Designing with color can be scary and many choose to avoid it altogether. Candice tackles a young couple's completely colorless, dull master bedroom while cleverly overcoming their fear of color. Using art, accessories and decorative details, Candice colourfully accents Carl and Catherine's bland space without overwhelming the couple's preferred neutral palette. Along the way Candice shares some colourful ideas with long-time friend and color expert, Jane Lockhart. As always, the result is a stunning transformation.
Timeless Kid's Room
Flowers, bunnies and little trains may be classic children's room motifs but when it comes to a fast growing child, the results are far from timeless. Candice dips into her designer tool bag to create a room for Lora and Michael's little girl Lauren that has all the whimsy and playfulness a little girl needs, without surrendering to the ordinary. Candice and the team work hard to create a spectacular room that will foster Lauren's playfulness, interests and creativity, and grow with her for years to come.
Designing With Unique Art
A love of beautiful art doesn't always translate into beautiful design, especially when the art is quite colourful, and so are the walls behind it. This is the dilemma facing Candice as she attempts to turn a family's plain living /dining room into a playful, social space for an art loving family. Their indiscriminate love of bright colours in other parts of the home has done nothing to showcase their lively artworks. Candice shares all her design and lighting secrets on how to really make art work in your home.
Family Room Design Fundamentals
Family rooms can be tough spaces to design, as they have to meet many needs for several people at different times of day. Candice and her team tackle a young family's dysfunctional basement den and using the Fundamentals of Family Room Design she transforms this dated, dull and dreary room into a beautiful, functional, contemporary space they will love for years to come.
Sophisticated Floating Furniture Design
When so much of contemporary home design is dedicated to meeting the needs of growing families, Candice finds it refreshing to tackle the challenge of designing a living room for a professional couple and their friends. Having recently moved from a small condo to a large, suburban home they find the blend of wrong furniture and dated surroundings is all wrong for the sophisticated mood they want to create. Candice settles on the principle of Floating Furniture Design to redesign the space and release the furnishings from the confines of the room's walls, transforming this power couple's gloomy space and giving it the ultimate 'shaken-not-stirred' sophistication.
Basement Design With Nature
Inspired by a family's love of the outdoors and their urban home's lakeside setting Candice uses a Natural Design approach to transform their walkout basement space. The real challenge is that the room must serve as a mudroom, family room and satellite kitchen to handle holiday overflow and summer barbeques. Choosing from a natural palette of colours and materials Candice shows how to make a functional space beautiful by simply going back to nature.
Special Occasion Dining Room Transformation
As modern life gets busier, dining is no longer a formal affair. But there's still nothing like the experience of enjoying exceptional food served in a gorgeous Special Occasion dining room. In this episode Candice takes on the challenge of making over a tired room in a couple's beautiful 130-year old home and turning it into a drop-dead gorgeous dining space. Candice uses all her most dramatic design techniques to up the room's glamour and drama and transforms it into an enchanting Special Occasion dining room.
Ultimate kitchen Facelift
There comes a time when every homeowner must eventually face a kitchen renovation. Some kitchens are in dire need of a complete overhaul, while others are salvageable. At first glance, Ilya and Pina's kitchen seems to be a lost cause, but to Candice's expert eye the kitchen just needs a thorough makeover that will revitalize the old and inject a lot of great new features, turning this tired space into the ultimate Kitchen Facelift.
Designing With Contrast And Function
Contrast is one of the essential principles of good design and it's the one Candice chooses to transform a young couple's dated and cavernous basement into a modern and functional entertainment space. Lacking both function and form the room is a far cry from the modern look Sandra and Bob crave. While playing with contrast, Candice shares all her designer secrets to achieve the ultimate modern room that's both warm and functional.
Perfect Modern Bathroom Fundamentals
Modern style is often described as sleek and clean-lined, focusing first and foremost on function and avoiding excessive frills. That's what Kim and Rob dream of in place of their two drab and dated rooms. Candice uses all her modern design skills in a design makeover that gives viewers the inside scoop on how to create the perfect, luxurious, modern bathroom.
Bright Loft Living
Urban loft living is about large spaces, high ceilings and wide expanses of windows set in an urban landscape. But decorating such a space is not easy and Gerald doesn't know how to warm up his open-space concept with the exposed cement flooring, and overhead mechanical ductwork. Candice shares all her designer secrets to turn one man's gloomy space into an elegant and inviting home.
Hidden Kitchen Essentials
For many urban homeowners the ideal kitchen is one that manages to completely hide away when not in use. No unsightly stove top grills, no small appliances crowding the counters, no fridge making its presence known in a bold stainless steel statement. That's the challenge facing Candice as she tackles a small, out-of-date, shocking pink kitchen for a couple who desire a seamless flow from the front of their beautiful little home right through to the back. In the biggest renovation of the season Candice creates a fabulous kitchen that is there only when it's needed, and the results are out of sight.
