Scooter Shooter
The Challengers decide to build a counter weight net system to try and catch a motorized Fly Scooter as it propels itself off an 80 foot ramp, 26 feet off the ground, at 40 MPH. If they catch the scooter, they each win one, but this is no easy challenge. Unknown final velocity and impact force have this team scrambling to design a foolproof scooter catcher. But in order to get the net built on time and working properly, the team must first deal with their explosive tempers that look to cause this team to crumble.
Hurricane Mike
The Challengers are trying to win an all expenses trip for two to Costa Rica. Their task: to save a 100-gallon aquarium from the forces of a level 5 hurricane, including torrential rain, 150 MPH plus winds and flying debris that hits with over 1700 pounds of force. The team starts confident, but with every hour closer to the hurricane, they discover another weakness in their design, sending them back to the drawing board. The hurricane is coming and it?s going to be a big one.
Beer Bunker
Guys love beer and guys love explosions. Unfortunately for this team, we've put those two things together in a way that isn't ideal. The prize up for grabs is nothing less than a year's supply of beer from St. Pauli Girl, 672 bottles to be exact. But sitting just 18 inches from the beer pyramid are 3 explosive charges packing a punch equal to a stick of dynamite. Their beer saving plan is huge, and the clock is ticking, causing not one, but 2 all nighters. If the Challengers fail, they're going home thirsty. But if they can save it, they keep it.
Flaming Guitar
The flagship guitar of rock-n-roll, a Gibson Les Paul, is going to be torched by 100 pounds of thermite in just 48 hours unless this team of Challengers can devise a way to save it. Thermite, a self-oxidizing compound that once ignited instantly burns at over 4500 degrees Fahrenheit, will burn pretty much anything that crosses it's path, and a guitar is no match for this molten mess of destruction. The Challengers try to put together a plan, but conflicting ideas and harsh personalities leave the guitars fate hanging.
Egg Scrambler
Sitting in the cradle of a 20 foot tall slingshot is The Big Green Egg. The Rolls Royce of BBQ's, it's inch and half thick ceramic makes it ideal for smoking and grilling the finest food for your back yard party. But in 48 hours, the mega-slingshot will be released and the Egg will go flying, soaring over a minefield of 12 air cannons all aimed at the grill as it flies overhead. The Challengers must both deflect all the projectiles as well as figure out a way to catch the BBQ. But building a giant net is not as easy as it seems. Speed, energy and trajectory must be calculated correctly or the Egg will wind up scrambled. If they fail the Egg will be toast, hitting the ground with over a ton of force.
Steak Sled
The three Challengers are ready to save today's prize; a years supply of gourmet steaks from Chicago Steak Company. That's $2,000 dollars worth of prime beef. Mike, the Engineer of Destruction has masterminded a road of destruction. Laid out over a 30-foot stretch of concrete, the steaks will first be doused with over 300 gallons of boiling water just seconds before a 7.5 ton steamroller drives over them. The Challengers must build something that will keep their prize both frozen and in one piece. Hungry as they are, trying to save 100 individual steaks from the 7.5 ton "tenderizer" is no easy task as they battle extreme force, temperatures and the 48 hour clock.
Steel Blockbuster
The challengers are trying to win an Open Air Cinema set up complete with a 12 foot inflatable screen, an HD projector and full set of outdoor speakers. Too bad we're about to drop 24,000 pounds of steel on top of the prize just seconds after two 400-pound battering rams rip the screen to shreds. And if that wasn't difficult enough, three air cannons will be shooting gallons of paint at the otherwise pristine white screen. If any part of their prize gets splattered, smashed or shredded, they are going home losers. A challenge of this magnitude is going to take serious engineering and building skills. Let's hope this team is up to the task.
Game Over
In order to win an Xbox Elite gaming system with a collection of some of the best video games today, the team will have to build something that will save their prize from some of the fiercest forces found in video games. Namely, crazy car jumps and fire. Today's prize is set up in a mock living room. Unfortunately, we have a 2000-pound car hurling off a ramp at 40 MPH and headed straight for the prize. And did we mention that we're dousing the floor with gasoline and are firing flaming projectiles at the prize as well? Well, we are. If they can devise something that will save it, they each take one home. If not, this will truly be a glorious disaster!
Field Of Destruction
It's football time, Catch It Keep It style. The three sports fanatic challengers are just 48 hours away from winning a trip to the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl. All they have to do is safely maneuver the Catch It Keep It football dummy in to the end zone, just 15 yards away. While the principals of the game are the same, the football field one of a kind. Rather than a real live defense, the 15 yards of destruction is laced with various destructive elements inspired by the most extreme forces players must endure. First, they will have to dodge three 50-gallon barrels filled with sand, swinging with over 1400 pounds of force, same as your average tackle. Second, we bring the heat with 5 yards of 2000 degree flame throwers. Third, 5 yards of rotating, solid steel tackling arms are positioned just right to knock the ball from the player. Lastly, six 200 PSI fire hoses will attempt to blast the ball away. Oh, and the ball itself, that has been frozen in liquid nitrogen making it brittle as ever. If their offence can somehow score a touchdown on the field of destruction, then they are more than deserving to go to the Pro Bowl.
TV Plunge
The three challengers have just 48 hours to try and save a 50-inch plasma screen from certain destruction as it falls 55 feet onto a bed of steel spikes. But that's not all - the TV, which hangs from just a small piece of rope, will first be blasted with 6 flame throwers, burning through the rope and causing it to fall. The team, which includes an MIT engineer, a fabricator and a genera contractor, devise a plan to build 2 60 foot towers so they can lower the TV by hand rather than let it fall to the ground. If they can save the TV, they each win one. But the clock is against them, there plan shows signs of weakness and their design might just be too big for three men to maneuver.
