Rachel
Trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell takes on proverbial over-achiever Rachel, who has been able to accomplish nearly everything she has set out to do so far in her young life - except the one goal that eludes her, to lose weight. At only 21 years old, Rachel weighs nearly 400 pounds. While living at home surrounded by her fit siblings, she feels she's the "elephant in the room." As a result, she believes she can never make her parents truly proud, until she loses weight. However, Rachel soon learns she will get the opportunity of a lifetime when Chris surprises her at the school where, ironically, she teaches young children physical education. During her first week with Chris in "boot camp" at California Health & Longevity Institute, Rachel goes through extensive medical testing, nutrition classes and intense workouts. Chris then takes her back home to Georgia, where he lays out the goals for each of her four, three-month phases of weight loss. With Chris by her side, Rachel pushes hard, hoping to reach her first goal of shedding 80 pounds in three months. Still, her efforts are constantly challenged by her family's inability to fully support her new lifestyle. But Rachel has the tools, and she has Chris in her corner. Does she have the fortitude to succeed on this one-year journey and ultimately change her life forever?
Alex
Growing up, 23-year-old Alex was always overweight, but he had an ideal childhood with loving parents and brothers who all enjoyed going to baseball games together. However, at the age of 18, tragedy struck when his mom was diagnosed with cancer. With their days together dwindling, Alex made a promise to his mother that he would get healthy and lose the weight. Now at a dangerous 459 pounds and clearly struggling to uphold that promise, Alex writes a letter to trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell, requesting his help in a desperate attempt to save his own life and make his mother proud.
Dana
Dana, a 45 year-old bachelor from Franklin, Tennessee who has masked his emotional pain with food for over three decades, weighs in at 498 pounds. When trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell surprises Dana at his water aerobics class, Dana is overcome with joy at the chance to reclaim his life. Once his weight loss journey begins, he starts to see changes in his life as well as his waistline. But when the progress mysteriously stops, Chris has an intense and emotional confrontation with Dana that leads to a revelation.
James
Weighing in at 651 pounds, James, a 25-year-old former football player from Fort Worth, Texas, becomes the most obese person trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell has ever worked with. James must lose 150 pounds to stay on track in the first of his four, three-month phases of weight loss. Chris hopes to motivate James to safely shed the pounds by bringing in help from former Dallas Cowboys star Nate Newton - who lost 175 pounds after once weighing 401 pounds - and one of James' childhood heroes, Dallas Cowboys Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin. After James incurred a knee injury in high school, his hopes of playing professional football were dashed. He turned his focus to computer work and spent long hours behind his computer, consuming unhealthy food.
LaRhonda
A former marching band queen from Oklahoma City, 24-year-old LaRhonda now weighs 433 pounds. When she lost her mother, who wasn't as overweight, to diabetes, LaRhonda realized that she is currently on the same path - and will die if she doesn't change her ways. When trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell surprises her in front of the flag team she coaches, LaRhonda promises that she will reverse the direction of her life, not only for herself, but for her whole family. Throughout her one year journey to safely lose almost half of her body weight, Chris helps LaRhonda face the dark secrets she's covered with food and finally admit the childhood trauma that led her to become super obese.
Wally
Wally, a 26-year-old caring husband and loving father, is also a self-admitted fast food addict. Turning to food at an early age to cope with a rough childhood, Wally weighs in at 490 pounds when he meets trainer Chris Powell. Wally's weight loss progress appears to be going well, until Chris receives a troubling email that leads to an emotional intervention. Wally's addiction to food has caused him to spiral downward, and Chris wonders if Wally is beyond the kind of help he can offer. Chris puts Wally through intense regimens, including a climb to the top of the Sears Tower in Chicago and a 100-mile bike ride. If Wally can lose 110 pounds during the first of his four three-month phases, his reward for his hard work will be a family trip to Disney World to celebrate his daughter's second birthday.
Staci
At 32 years old, working mother Staci has been battling her weight for over 20 years. Mother to two young daughters and employed as a full-time in-home nurse, Staci also takes care of her husband, who lost the use of the left side of his body after suffering a stroke. At 456 pounds, Staci is the largest female that transformation specialist Chris Powell has worked with in his career. Committed to getting healthy, Staci goes on a year-long journey to lose half her weight and become healthier for herself and her family.
Krista
Trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell takes one of his toughest clients, Krista from Haslett, Texas, through an unforgiving weight loss journey, pushing her to conquer her weight despite her efforts to push away his help. A 34-year-old married mother of one, Krista had it all, until a fateful day in 2006 when she discovered her then two-year-old daughter had suffered a seizure. Everything in Krista's world changed at that point, including her weight. Now, at the morbid weight of 445 pounds, Krista knows that if she doesn't get help immediately, she could lose her life, and her daughter could lose her mother and greatest advocate. To ensure each of her four, three-month weight loss goals are met, Chris takes Krista to a Texas motor speedway where she must push a race car around the track. In the midst of her one-year journey and with her daughter and husband looking on, Chris tests Krista's fitness level as she tries to complete the Disneyland ??? Marathon. With new goal weights set every three months, the challenge is constant. The sole variable is Krista. With Chris' proven transformation tools set in place, the only question remaining is whether Krista is strong enough to get out of her own way and let the metamorphosis manifest.
