A challenging surgery is performed, and it triggers powerful memories for Meredith, Richard, Owen and Stephanie. Alex makes a fateful decision as he faces a scary future and a possible departure for jail. Meanwhile, victims of a building collapse pour into the hospital; and Richard wants Bailey to explain why Eliza's expertise is needed. Three of the doctors visit a prison for women in order to treat a pregnant teenager and her unborn baby, and before long, they find themselves dealing with an unexpected situation. The doctors encounter a difficult case involving a dangerous patient. Meanwhile, Owen receives life-changing news, which pushes Amelia to step up and support him; and Alex attends a medical conference after making a shocking discovery. The doctors' lives are at risk after a dangerous patient escapes the hospital room. Meanwhile, Alex makes a hard choice in his relationship with Jo; and Meredith has some big news for Nathan, bringing things to a turning point.
