All the years of watching telenovelas with the two women who raised her - her sexy, young-at-heart mother, Xiomara and her still-devout grandmother, Alba - have given Jane a slightly unrealistic view of romance, but her wonderful fiance, Michael, is supportive and even understands her decision to save herself until marriage. All of Jane's meticulous life plans are turned upside down, however, when she sees her doctor for a routine check-up and is accidentally artificially inseminated with a specimen meant for someone else. Now, Jane is faced with the most important decisions of her life - a life that has suddenly become as dramatic, complicated and unpredictable as the telenovelas she has always loved. Chapter Two Jane struggles to keep her unexpected pregnancy from taking over her life, but with her mom Xiomara pressuring her to sue the doctor who accidently inseminated her, and her constant run-ins with the baby's biological father, Rafael, life is anything but normal. To top it off, Michael's jealousy about Jane and Rafael's past leads him to make an unexpected alliance with Petra. Meanwhile, Jane's own father, Rogelio, is insisting on meeting his daughter, but Xiomara wants to keep the secret from Jane a little while longer. Chapter Three Jane considers making a life-changing decision about her and Michael's relationship. Alba is disappointed in Xo's handling of Rogelio, so Alba takes it into her own hands to stop Rogelio from trying to see Jane. Meanwhile, Jane continues to question whether Petra will be a fit mother, and her pursuit of the truth leads to an unexpected change in their relationship. Michael's on-going murder investigation leads to an unexpected discovery. Chapter Four In addition to being overwhelmed with all the wedding planning, Jane begins to feel guilty about her emerging feelings towards Rafael and decides to tell Michael during their pre-wedding counseling. Elsewhere, Rafael and Petra are faced with someone from their past and neither are happy about it. Meanwhile, Rogelio learns about Jane's impending nuptials and pushes Xo to let him be part of his daughter's wedding. Chapter Five Furious at her mother Xo, Jane decides she needs some space and moves in with her fiancee, Michael. However, living together isn't what she thought it would be and Jane has to rethink her plans. Jane makes an effort to get to know Rogelio, but when his nerves get the better of him, things don't go quite as planned. Meanwhile, Rafael and Petra continue to struggle with the state of their marriage, but Petra has another unusual plan up her sleeve. Chapter Six Jane and Rogelio begin to grow closer until she meets his mean twin teenage stepdaughters, who are determined to make her life miserable. Rogelio insists Xo uses his band for her big performance at the Mirabella Hotel, but the band is not what she was expecting. Elsewhere, Rafael finds himself arrested after Petra files a complaint against him. Meanwhile, Jane is conflicted about the direction of her relationship with Michael and what will be the best choice for her. Chapter Seven Jane decides the best thing for her is to stay away from Rafael, but when her friends insist on taking her to the hot new club that he owns, she finds it hard to avoid him. Elsewhere, Xo and Rogelio each have dinner plans, so Rogelio suggests they have a double date, but the evening doesn't work out as planned. Meanwhile, Petra is once again scheming to make Rafael's life more difficult. Chapter Eight Jane and Rafael both reveal shocking secrets to each other. Xo is excited when a music producer, Elliot, contacts her to record a demo, but little does she know that Rogelio had a hand in making it happen. Meanwhile, Michael is close to a big break in his case, and Petra finds new was to make Rafael's life difficult. Chapter Nine Jane and Rafael are both concerned about Petra's true intentions with the baby, especially after they discover one of her shocking secrets. Rogelio is nominated again for a Best Actor award and invites Jane, Alba and Xo to attend the show with him. Xo is about to give up on her dreams, but when she meets her ultimate idol, Paulina Rubio, she has a change of heart. Meanwhile, Michael unveils a huge clue in his ongoing investigation. Chapter Ten As a hurricane rips through Miami, Jane is forced to stay at the Marbella, but the storm soon becomes the least of her concerns. When Rogelio hears about Alba's condition, he rushes to Xo's side at the hospital to comfort her. Rafael is reinstated as boss, but he is soon faced with a difficult decision regarding layoffs at the hotel. Meanwhile, Michael helps Alba, but does his best to keep it a secret. Chapter Eleven When the nuns surprise Jane by offering her a permanent teaching position, she's excited, but things become complicated when Rogelio offers Jane a writing internship at his telenovela. Alba encourages Xo to keep the promise she made to God about Rogelio. Meanwhile, Michael is convinced of Rafael's involvement with the mysterious Sin Rostro and disobeys his boss' direct order to leave Rafael alone. Chapter Twelve Jane's career is on the upswing, but she's skeptical about this good fortune, especially because it involves Rogelio. Elsewhere, Sin Rostro's link to the hotel has Rafael worrying about his family's safety; and Petra can no longer run from her past. Chapter Thirteen Jane learns the baby's sex, but a medical issue arises and may interfere with Jane's graduation. Meanwhile, Alba refuses to tell Xo about something she finds too embarrassing to discuss; and Michael believes he's uncovered Sin Rostro's real identity. Chapter Fourteen Michael thinks Rafael is hiding his father, and he convinces Jane to be suspicious about this as well. Meanwhile, Jane gets Xo and Rogelio to be honest with their feelings toward one another; and Jane's pals suggest throwing a baby shower for her. Chapter Fifteen News about the baby's health has Jane and Rafael reconsidering their living arrangements. Meanwhile, Jane's favorite author stays at the Marbella, prompting Jane to take action about her own book; and Alba dispenses relationship advice to Jane and Xo. Chapter Sixteen Jane considers attending a romance-writing workshop to get over a case of writer's block. Meanwhile, Rogelio asks to shadow Michael to gain greater insight into portraying a cop; Rafael must ask Rogelio for a favor; and a rift occurs between Xo and Alba. Chapter Seventeen Rafael reacts poorly to a crisis at the hotel, leading Jane to wonder how he'll face parenthood. Meanwhile, Alba disapproves of Xo's living arrangement; Michael and Rogelio help out one another; and Petra feels uneasy after she uncovers a huge secret. Chapter Eighteen Rogelio's mom visits, but she and Xo are not on good terms. Meanwhile, Rafael gets news about his biological mother; Jane must miss her family's Easter celebration in order to fix a mishap she caused at work; and Petra seeks assistance from Michael. Chapter Nineteen Jane wants to repair things with Rafael. Meanwhile, Xo divulges a secret to Rogelio, who reacts unexpectedly; Alba begins to remember who caused her to fall; and Petra looks out for herself when she winds up in an alarming situation. Chapter Twenty Xo tries apologizing to Rogelio, but it's not an easy task. Meanwhile, Alba reveals details about her accident; Jane focuses on doing what's best for the baby after learning about its breech position; and Jane asks Michael to catch Petra in a lie. Chapter Twenty-One Jane's apprehensive about going to her high-school reunion because she hasn't achieved her goals. Meanwhile, Rafael tells Petra about Jane's custody request; Jane accepts Michael's offer to attend his commendation ceremony; and Rogelio confuses Xo. Chapter Twenty-Two Jane goes into labor and Xo rushes to get home to her, making Rogelio feel disconnected from the family. Meanwhile, Michael and Rafael temporarily put aside their differences; and Petra uncovers crucial info concerning Rafael.
