The Mole premiered on ABC on January 9, 2001. In the program, nine contestants and one "Mole" are presented with up to four tasks to complete in approximately a forty eight hour time period. With each task that is completed, the players earn money, which is put in a single "pot". At the end of each round, the players take a quiz of up to twenty five questions about the Mole. The contestant with the least number of correct answers is immediately eliminated from the program. The tasks and quizzes continue for nine rounds, until two players remain. One of the two remaining players is revealed as the Mole, and the other player is declared the winner and awarded all the prize money in the "pot."
