An alliance angers Floki; Princess Kwenthrith makes political moves. Tragic circumstances greet the fleet on its return to Kattegat; Lagertha is usurped and convinces Ragnar to help her reclaim her title. Rollo contemplates the Seer's prophecy regarding his destiny, while Kalf arrives in Kattegat and joins the Viking fleet as the raiders prepare to sail up the Seine for Paris. Later, babies are born to both Porunn and Judith; Athelstan tells Ragnar that of his reconnection to his Christian faith; Floki divines that a sign from the gods means a sacrifice is in order. The populace of Paris is in a panic after the appearance of the Viking fleet, and Emperor Charles, at the behest of his daughter, announces he'll remain in the city. The Viking army attacks Paris as the city musters its forces for defense. The Vikings launch an all-out second assault on Paris, and Emperor Charles is forced to make a desperate move. In Wessex, Judith is faced with her own pivotal decision. Viking troops make one more daring effort to take Paris, and Ragnar requests a favor of Bjorn, one that could alter the course of Viking history.
